One bright, breezy summer morning, the sun was shining and the sky was a perfect blue. Little Raed and his parents were headed for a beach day! They hopped into their car, and Dad reminded Raed, “Buckle up, buddy! Safety first!” Meanwhile, Mom was busy snapping baby Rima into her car seat. Dad grinned in the rearview mirror and cheered, “Is everyone ready for an adventure?”
The journey began with big smiles, but Raed was feeling a bit too “wiggly.” He started bouncing around and popping his head out of the window like a curious little jack-in-the-box! Every time he saw a giant truck or a cool toy shop, out he went again. Mom was as patient as a saint, gently pulling him back down, but Raed just couldn’t sit still!
Mom was exhausted; Raed was being a real “tough nut to crack.” Dad started to get a bit jittery behind the wheel. He said softly, “Raed, my brave boy, sticking your head out is super dangerous! A passing car could hurt you in the blink of an eye.” Raed finally settled down for a moment. Mom sighed with relief, saying, “That’s my boy! I knew you’d listen.”
Traffic was a nightmare, and the heat was rising. While they waited at a red light, Raed got “the boredom bugs.” He started fiddling with baby Rima’s seatbelt—click! Mom didn’t see a thing. Then, he started clicking the windows up and down and tossing tissues out like confetti! Dad reached his limit and shouted, “He’s driving me up the wall! He won’t stop touching things!” Mom looked at Raed sadly and said, “You’re upsetting your father, Raed. Please, keep your cool.”
Raed tried to scramble into the front seat, so Mom scooped him up into her lap to keep him safe. But as soon as the light turned green and the cars zoomed ahead—THUD! Rima’s little seat tipped over! Rima started wailing, and Dad slammed on the brakes. “Why wasn’t she buckled in?!” Dad cried out. Mom was sure she did it, but she was puzzled. Raed sat as quiet as a mouse, his heart thumping with guilt and fear for his sister.
They finally reached the beach. While Dad was unloading the coolers, Raed suddenly bolted! He tried to dash across the road all by himself. Mom let out a blood-curdling scream, but it was too late—SCREECH! A speeding car hit Raed because he was too small to be seen. He lay there, knocked cold, as a crowd gathered. Dad scooped him up and raced to the hospital, with Mom sobbing all the way.
Raed woke up in a white hospital room to see his parents’ worried faces. “Where am I?” he whispered. Dad hugged him tight, “You’re okay, buddy. You gave us a real scare!” The doctor walked in with a big grin, joking, “Should we break your leg so it matches the arm you broke being so naughty?” Everyone chuckled, and Raed, with tears in his eyes, finally spilled the beans: “Mom… I’m the one who unbuckled Rima’s seat.” He started crying, and everyone realized he had learned his lesson the hard way.
