The Story of Dabdub Who Refuses to Sleep

The Story of Dabdub

The Story of Dabdub

A small bear, Dabdub, lives with his family in “Happy Forest.” All the residents of the forest live in harmony and tranquility. Little Dabdub attends first grade at a kindergarten for young animals in the forest.

Dabdub has just learned some letters and numbers and was proudly writing and repeating them, boasting to his neighbors that he was growing up, knew how to count, and could write the word “dad.”

His parents, Dad Dabdub and Mom Dabdoobah, were delighted, as Dabdub was attentive to his studies and completed his homework immediately after returning from kindergarten. He also tidied his study table after finishing his assignments.

The only thing that bothered the parents was Dabdub’s refusal to sleep at the appointed time; he would stay up very late.

He preferred to spend his nights watching animated movies or playing phone games. His mother would ask Dabdub to go to bed early so he would be energetic in the morning, but Dabdub would strongly refuse and start crying, demanding that his mother allow him to stay up a bit longer.

He would say: “Leave me, Mom! The ‘Masha and the Bear’ episodes are wonderful; I can’t miss them.”

His mother would reluctantly give in, unsure how to deal with this stubborn child who refused to sleep early.

One night, Dabdub stayed up late watching cartoons. Dabdub slept late, and in the morning, his mother woke him up to go to kindergarten.

Dabdub woke up with great difficulty, feeling an intense desire to sleep and yawning constantly. Washing his face with cold water did not make him feel refreshed or active. Dabdub arrived at kindergarten and was happily greeted by his friends:

Arnoob, Nemoor, Batoota, Sanjoob, Kalboob, and Qatqoota. Everyone was very happy, especially Arnoob, who was dancing with joy because it was activity day, as announced by Teacher Zarafah.

Everyone changed out of their kindergarten uniform and put on their sports clothes, except for Dabdub, who felt exhausted and sleepy.

The entire class rushed to the kindergarten playground with Teacher Zarafah, who noticed that Dabdub hadn’t changed his clothes. She asked him: “Why haven’t you changed your clothes, Dabdub? Hurry back to the classroom and ask Miss Panda for help changing.”

Dabdub shook his head and went back to the classroom, but his eyelids felt incredibly heavy. He rested his head on the small desk and fell fast asleep.

On the playground, the other young ones were competing in running races and hopping on one leg. When it was time to play ball, Teacher Zarafah said she would divide the children into two teams: Arnoob’s team and Dabdub’s team.

But she noticed that Dabdub wasn’t there. She asked the children to get ready and practice shooting while she looked for Dabdub.

Teacher Zarafah returned to the classroom and found Dabdub in a deep sleep. Teacher Zarafah was surprised and gently woke Dabdub, asking him: “Why haven’t you changed your clothes, Dabdub? And why aren’t you joining us in the sports activities? You love them so much!”

Dabdub felt embarrassed and replied: “I stayed up late last night.”

The teacher asked: “Why did you stay up, Dabdub?”

Dabdub replied: “I was watching animated movies.”

Teacher Zarafah said: “Dabdub, cartoons are great, but we shouldn’t stay up late so we don’t harm our bodies.”

Dabdub was surprised and asked her: “How do cartoons harm our bodies?”

Teacher Zarafah replied: “Don’t you know that excessive cartoon watching harms your eyes, and staying up late makes you lose your energy the next day? Do you know, Dabdub, that sleep is very beneficial?”

Dabdub laughed and asked the teacher: “How can sleep be beneficial when we don’t do anything while sleeping?”

Teacher Zarafah smiled and said: “Sleeping is very beneficial because our bodies grow strong and body cells regenerate during sleep. Do you want to be strong or weak?”

Dabdub enthusiastically replied: “Strong, of course!”

Here, Teacher Zarafah said: “Then, strong one, you must sleep early for 10 consecutive hours to become the strongest of the strong.”

When Dabdub heard Teacher Zarafah’s words, he regretted staying up late and realized his mistake. He promised the teacher that he would not repeat his actions and would go to sleep early.

Teacher Zarafah hugged Dabdub, helped him change his clothes, and washed his face with water.

When Dabdub went with her to the playground, he found all his friends jumping and playing happily. Dabdub understood that he must sleep early to wake up early.
